I dreamed a
dream, past the hours of the twilight
Comfortably
warm as the waking sun, stretching its arms.
Lush green
and soft as the dewy morning grass
Melodiously
heartening as the song of the birds.
I dreamed a
dream, beyond the breadths of grasp
Weaved of
threads of clouds and seventh strings.
Grappled for
the sky, I only gloved the blues.
No one
understood, I dreamed of touching music.
I dreamed a
dream, looking through the lens
The world a theater, with the story of life on stage
Eyes widened
for dance, soul open for opera
Tickets for
a mono act but hoping for a dialogue.
I dreamed a
dream, built from pieces of me
Strung from
hope, it dwarfed me.
When morning
knocked, I quivered and ran
Sunk in
pits, I sang the dream to drown the taps.
I dreamed a dream
that like a poet spoke
‘I am but
wasn’t meant to be’, it wrote
‘Don’t hold
onto me, but watch me grow
Stay with me
but let me go’.
I dreamed a
dream that still ceases to end
While the
waking hours call from beyond the horizon.
I bargained with
my heart and whispered to my dream
‘Dear
darling, I’m going to miss you in my thoughts’.
